Our Mission

We have a three-part mission:

  • Protecting Natural Areas
  • Promoting Eco-Friendly Living
  • Providing Environmental Education

To achieve our mission we:

  • Work with the Port Washington School District to enhance and leverage the Guggenheim School Preserve’s environmental and educational value.
  • Sponsor educational events, such as nature walks.
  • Participate in community events, such as clean ups and removal of invasive plants.
  • Work with teachers to create environment-based learning programs in conformance with New York State science curriculum.
  • Established an advisory board of recognized experts in botany, ecology and ornithology.

PWGreen is involved in a number of events, including the following:

  • Established a program with the Schreiber AP Environmental Science class doing advanced scientific studies at the Guggenheim School Preserve.
  • Sponsors an annual Environmental Science Award and Scholarship for a graduating Schreiber High School Senior.
  • Established a 4th Grade program for Port’s elementary school students using the Guggenheim School Preserve and Sands Point Preserve as outdoor classrooms, covering biology, ecology, and geology.
