PWGreen is a 501(c)3, not-for-profit, 100% volunteer organization focused on protecting the Cow Neck Peninsula’s last remaining open spaces and using them for environmental education for Port Washington’s school children. Our members are your friends and neighbors who are working together to protect our Port Washington environment. Inspired by nature and the diversity of wildlife on Long Island’s North Shore, we strive to preserve the plants, animals and natural habitats by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive and flourish. We believe that wild, natural places improve the quality of life for all of us.
PWGreen is involved in a number of events, including the following:
- Established a program with the Schreiber AP Environmental Science class doing advanced scientific studies at the Guggenheim School Preserve in collaborations with Professor Betsy Gulotta from Nassau Community College.
- Sponsors an annual Environmental Science Award and Scholarship for a graduating Schreiber High School Senior.
- Participates at HarborFest each year to make the Community more aware of our local environment and how to protect it.
- Established a 4th Grade program for Port’s elementary school students using the Guggenheim School Preserve and Sands Point Preserve as outdoor classrooms, covering biology, ecology, and geology.
